Whai’s Who’s Got Next? is our high-energy, high-impact development pathway designed for School Year 9 and 10 players, to identify and elevate the next generation of basketball talent from across the Bay of Plenty and beyond.
We’re passionate about creating a clear and supported journey for young athletes who dream of playing at the top level. Whether you’re aiming for the NBL, Tauihi, National Representation - or simply want to be the best version of yourself - Who’s Got Next is your entry point.
Players will:
Continue learning the Whai Style of play
Train under professional Whai coaches
Learn core basketball skills: shooting, ball handling, defense, and game IQ
Follow structured training programs designed to elevate performance
Learn directly from Whai NBL and Tauihi players
Grow leadership, confidence, and mental toughness
Be part of a team culture built on hard work, humility, and respect

Whai Basketball is excited to introduce our Year 9&10 development programme for players in Tauranga & the BOP!
Designed as the entry point to our player pathway, our Junior Development Programme will focus on teaching basketball fundamentals, introductory offensive & defensive concepts with a big focus on decision making. Plus we have bi-weekly playing opportunities.
Our Junior Programme is the feeder programme for our Whai Elite Academy and to our Whai NBL & Tauihi teams and beyond!
